PRODUCERS FROM Tuscany: Casale Pozzuolo
Daniele Galluzzi in Tasting Cave

This 5 hectare podere close by the Montalcino zone has produced grapes since Etrusco-Roman times. The casale (farmhouse) dates to the 1400s and belonged to the locally imposing Piccolomini family. The Galluzzi family has been growing grapes here for five generations, though Daniele Galluzzi is the first to bring a high standard of quality to the vineyards.

Galluzzi practices only low-yield, organic agriculture – no chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used. Due to the breezy exposition of the vines, sulfur and copper aren’t needed because mold and mildew are rare. In the cellar, Daniele lets spontaneously occurring yeasts do their work. As result, his two wines (13,000 bottles total production) are exhilarating examples of pure Sangiovese Grosso.
